Lent Day 7

The Psalmist contrasts the generous person with the person who borrows without repaying. These are, in a sense, opposites. The righteous person is generous, giving graciously when there is need. The wicked person isn’t just stingy with his own wealth and resources but actually borrows from others without returning what was given. This is an issue of the heart. The wicked person builds his own wealth at the cost of others, but the righteous person gives liberally. If we are to accord with the righteousness of Christ, we should be those who are eager to give graciously.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, we desire to live righteous lives as you are righteous in every way. Give us hearts of generosity by your Holy Spirit so we can be those who give freely. Please forgive us for times when we have withheld what was good to give, and for any time we borrowed without repaying. Amen.
