Lent Day 19

Wisdom and prudence are often used interchangeably. Prudence (or shrewdness) is really a subcategory of wisdom, focussed on managerial discernment. Prudence shows up first in your ability to manage yourself–as a child, you learn to care for your body and your belongings. That typically grows into managing a household and, for many, a family. You may find prudence active in the workplace or in your responsibilities in the church. In any case, knowledge and discretion (speaking without causing offense) go hand in hand with prudence to make a person wise.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, as we grow in knowledge through the scriptures and through the teachings of the church, grow us in prudence and discretion so that we might gain wisdom. Amen.
