Lent Day 15

For Solomon, the product of overindulgence is poverty. It may be drunkenness and gluttony that lead down this path, but any desire of the flesh may lead to the same destruction. Like strong drink clouds the mind and leaves the drunkard sluggish, unable to do the next day's work, any overindulgence will inevitably lead to distraction and lack of motivation to do what is truly valuable in life. Food and drink are good for the body in moderation. Entertainment, recreation, and sex are good for the heart and mind when there is righteousness and self-control. But in excess, any indulgence of the flesh will inevitably lead to poverty–spiritual, for sure, and often physical.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, temper us. Give us wisdom to live in moderation, not indulging in the desires of the flesh that lead to spiritual and physical poverty. But let us enjoy the good things you have given us with self-control so that we will be edified in life and not destroyed. Amen.
